This short film is a re-imagined version of the oil painting Ophelia by British artist Sir John Everett Millais.
The original Ophelia depicts a fictional character from Hamlet singing before she drowns in a river. The painting is also known for its painting process, in which it plunges Elizabeth Siddall, the painter's muse, into icy water in winter. And a similar ending for Elizabeth and Ophelia, both of whom died of mental health problems.
My Ophelia is an imaginary goddess who has the power to free herself from the despairing situation. She chose to dissolve herself and become part of the water before the messenger of death visited her. In this work, I was trying to suggest the conflict between life and death, emphasizing that every living thing in the biosphere is not something that we could hold on to it.
